FAMILIES:


Education Matters

A program that encourages the advancement of education for children in the West Houston area and annually participates in a Back to School Supply Drive for West Houston Area Ministries (WHAM).

 

Feine-Mattis Scholarship Fund

Annually awards scholarships to students entering their third year of college or graduate school and preparing for careers in education, health and social welfare, or Judaic studies.

Expanding Your Horizons

A program that informs and encourages middle school girls to pursue careers in science and mathematics.

 

Girl Power Zoo Day

A half-day of reunion, fun, and relaxation for child survivors of sexual abuse and their counselors who attended Camp Victory Texas.

 

HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents

of Preschool Youngsters)

Founded by NCJW in Israel, this internationally recognized family based literacy program's mission is to empower parents to be the first and primary educator of their 3, 4, & 5 year old children. Supported by easy-to-use activity packets, home visits, and group meetings, HIPPY parents learn how to prepare their children for success in school and beyond.

JOY OF READING & HEALTH FAIR

Joy of Reading

NCJW provides books and members participate in a monthly story-time hour for the children who attend the House of Tiny Treasures (HTT), a program of SEARCH. This is Houston's only fully accredited child care facility serving children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years, of homeless parents who are currently in job training or re-entering the work force.

 

The NCJW HTT Health Fair

is for parents of children attending HTT. The Health Fair helps parents learn about community services available to them, the developmental health needs of their children, and the concept of preventative and healthy doctor visits.

NCJW PAIR College Day

A program in collaboration with the Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR) to educate refugee children about potential career paths and encourage their academic success.

 

PAL (Preparation for Adult Living)

NCJW provides gifts and volunteers for the annual PAL conference. The PAL program is designed to meet the needs of formerly abused and neglected teens in foster care and custody of Harris County Protective Services.

     

FOR WOMEN:
     

AVDA (Aid To Victims Of Domestic Abuse) - NCJW Client Emergency Assistance Fund

AVDA, established by NCJW in 1980, provides a unique blend of services including advocacy, legal representation, a batterers' intervention counseling program, and community education and outreach. 

 

The NCJW Client Emergency Assistance Fund

provides unrestricted funds so that AVDA can address the full range of needs for all who need them and continue its goal of turning victims into survivors.

Call to Protect Cell Phone Collection

Used cellular phones are collected and given to Verizon to be refurbished, reprogrammed, and given to domestic violence victims.

 

 

 

NCJW Women’s Seder

The NCJW Women's Seder provides an inspiring, educational, and spiritual experience for members of the Houston community, affiliated and not affiliated, young and old. This

inter-generational event celebrates the woman's role in the Exodus

and emphasizes the women of the Passover story.

 


IN THE HOUSTON COMMUNITY:
 

Donny Workman Memorial Lunch Program

NCJW provides lunch and art scholarships to art students at the Art League who are HIV positive or living with other illnesses.

 

 

 

Human Traffick Stop
NCJW Provisional Supply Bank

International Services' Trafficked Persons'

Assistance Program (TPAP) for the YMCA's clients who have been rescued from being victims of trafficking. The Provisional Supply Bank provides non-perishable food items, baby products,household products, blankets, and warm-up suits for these individuals and their families.

 

 Read & Chat at Seven Acres

  Volunteers, through discussion groups    and reading sessions, share companionship, enrichment and mental stimulation to residents at Seven Acres.

 

WHAM (West Houston Area Ministries) Food Pantry Collection

Food is collected at NCJW meetings and events to help those in need.

Israeli Granting Programs

An NCJW program that supplies funding for various programs in Israel to help children and women of all backgrounds in the areas of education, business, and social advancement.

 

Yad B'Yad

An NCJW initiative to nurture knowledge that

supports grassroots organizations in Israel that

further our mission of empowering women,

children, and families.
